Gettysburg

Since Kirsten was doing a rotation at Gettysburg Hospital this week, we met her after work on Friday and enjoyed a few hours of history at the very new Gettysburg National Museum and Visitor Center. Above, Kirsten is standing in front of a map marking dozens of field hospitals set up in Gettysburg at the time of the Civil War. On the other map, she is pointing to York, PA to represent just how close we live to Gettysburg. All of the exhibits were first-class, including one that we enjoyed in particular about the Gettysburg Address. Afterward, we drove a short portion of the self-auto tour to see some of the memorials and battle fields.

Wolfgang Candy Tour

Kyle's cousin Andrea and her family stayed with us in York. Together, we enjoyed a sweet-smelling tour of the Wolfgang Candy factory in York before heading to Gettysburg. We watched as raisin clusters, chocolate covered pretzels, and chocolate bars were made just a few feet from us. None of the hairnets would fit Brooklyn, so she wore a beard net.

Brooklyn's trip to Brooklyn, NY

From Philadelphia to New Jersey to ride the NJ Transit . . .

to Penn Station in (rainy!) Manhattan to the subway to find Kristi-Lynn . . .

to the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens . . .

to the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory and the Brooklyn Bridge . . .

and back to Penn Station and the NJ Transit . . .

to the car for the drive back to York behind a very large cow . . .

to the peace and quiet of my home.

That was sure a fun, but exhausting trip. There was so much going on I didn't want to miss anything. I stayed awake during the days and then slept 12 hours every night without making a peep. My parents say I'm such a great traveler and the perfect baby! Can't wait for the next adventure.

Philadelphia

After Kirsten's conference, we did get to see the city together as a family. Some of the places we visited included: Independence Hall; Congress Hall; The Liberty Bell, The National Constitution Center; The U.S. Mint in Philadelphia; Betsy Ross's House; Christ Church; The Second U.S. Bank; Ben Franklin's Grave; and the docks on the Delaware River. Kyle and Brooklyn also stopped by the law schools at U. Penn and Drexel and thanks to an accommodating library staff, were able to look at First and Third Editions of The Book of Mormon in the rare book department of U. Penn's Van Pelt Library.


Kyle and Brooklyn got to explore Philadelphia while Kirsten sat in a trauma class for 2 days. She sure missed out on the fun.
